About Us

Founded in Summit, New Jersey in 1988, Family Promise is a national organization that comprises more than 200 affiliates in 43 states that work together to transform the lives of families experiencing homelessness. What began as a local response to a problem in Union County, New Jersey has grown over the last 30 years into a national movement involving more than 200,000 volunteers nationwide who serve more than 125,000 people yearly. Today Family Promise is the leading national nonprofit addressing the issue of family homelessness. While we’ve grown, the core of what we do is still local – partnerships within a city or county changing lives for the better.

We are Family Promise

May 8, 2024 – A question that we are asked from time-to-time. I believe because people are under the impresion that most homeless shelters are funded by the State and/or Federal Government. Our state and federal grants only provide about 10% of our annual budget (and that percentage is shrinking each year even though demand for our services has increased each year). We are heavily reliant on individual and corporate donations for 90% of the money and items that allow us to continue helping families out of homelessness. Most of our funding comes from checks written by private individuals and local businesses out of their committment to what we do. We would love to see a huge number of monthly donors (like ST. Jude, or ASPCA, or a thousand other "Only $20 per month" organizations), but given the rather regional nature of what we do we really can't pull off that style of campaign. So that means we have to ask those who live, work, and do business in the Chippewa Valley for their continued support with donations. If you are a regular supporter of Family Promise of the Chippewa Valley, we thank you for that support. Only through your donations can we continue to provide housing and support for families struggling with homelessness. If you haven't supported us yet we would be honored if you would go to http://familypromisecv.org/donate and set up a monthly, or make a one-time, donation. Monthy donations allow people to have more impact with a small donation each month. $20.00 per month provides $240 per year for the cost of a fast food meal each month. 100% of the money raised stays local and is used to provide shelter, food, case management, support, and empowerment for a family struggling with homelessness. We even use a Credit Card processing site that charges us nothing, so that we get 100% of what you donate (not 93% like most other Credit Card services). As a 501c3 non-profit your donation is tax deductable, and you will receive a reciept that can be used on your taxes. May 6, 2024 – We've got some exciting news. We're turning 30 this year. In March of 1994 Eau Claire Interfaith Hospitality Network was formed and started moving toward becoming an Emergency Family Shelter. Over the next 18 months a vision was built on how to provide shelter for families experiencing homelessness. The dream of a small group of people became a reality as they built support and processes for making this dream come to life. Over the next year watch our page for stories from our early days to today. Stories about those who had the dream, those who picked up the dream and turned it into a reality. We'll be sharing the history of the organization, success stories, stories of our infancy, our first steps, our awkward teen years, and our successes. We're looking forward to celebrating the organization we've become by looking back at the organization we were. Watch this space for more throughout the coming months.

May 2, 2024 – We are currently renovating our courtyard and would appreciate your assistance! We are looking for new or like new outdoor items such as a sandbox with a lid, a water table, a small bike rack, scooters, a storage bench, and a few small side tables. If you would like to donate any of these items, please contact us by phone at (715) 834-4357 or by email at info@familypromisecv.org.

April 29, 2024 – We are looking for volunteers to provide meals for our families. If you have any questions or are able to help, please give us a call.

April 9, 2024 – We are thrilled to announce the date for our upcoming Hike for the Homeless! Please keep an eye out for registration information, which will be available soon.

April 8, 2024 – It's Sexual Assault Awareness Month. While we are not a Domestic Violence Shelter, we do work with one and urge you to support them in their work with those experiencing Domestic violence. During this month, Bolton Refuge House has planned three events this week to bring attention to the issue and to raise some funds to help them continue operation. Go have fun at their Trivia fundraiser and their Spring Soiree on the 13th. Go learn about sexual assault at their "Time For Change" event on the 12th. Bolton is doing tremendous work and can use the support. Go Bolton!!!

April 2, 2024 – Man, what a great group!! Thanks to Chippewa Valley Habitat for Humanity for raising their hand when we asked for help painting our transitional house to get it ready for a new family. They are painting the entire inside of the house. They all rock!! Let's show some luv for Chippewa Valley Habitat for Humanity!!!!

March 25, 2024 – Altoona Elementary and Middle School for the win AGAIN!! FPCV sends a shout-out to the students at School District of Altoona for collecting stuffed toys for the children in our shelter. Every child that comes into our shelter gets a gift of some type. For our younger children it is typically a stuffed "creature" of some type. While not a huge gift, these go a long way towards helping the children feel more comfortable in their new home. Our shelves are full of stuffed animals right now. But we are always are looking for people willing to volunteer or to donate to help keep our doors open for families experiencing homelessness. Your donations of time or money stay local an benefit families right here in the Chippewa Valley. We'd love to have you help. To volunteer go to http://familypromisecv.org/get-involved to donate go to http://familypromisecv.org/donate Without you all we could do very little. We exist purely as a result of the generosity of the people of the Chippewa Valley.

March 25, 2024 – Family Promise wants to thank Eagles Club #2213 Chippewa Valley Fraternal order of Eagles for the donation they made this weekend. The Meat Raffle they did for us was great fun and raised a nice sum to assist us in our mission of helping families in the Chippewa Valley who are experiencing homelessness. It's organizations and business like this that keep our doors open and allow us to continue to serve the growing population of families experiencing homelessness. Without all of you holding us up with your financial donations, meals, and volunteering we could not continue to perform our mission. How can you become involved?? Call us at 715-834-4357, or go to http://familypromisecv.org/get-involved to volunteer or http://familypromisecv.org/donate to make a financial contribution to help us in our fight against homelessness. Thanks again, Eagles #2213. I had fun and you all did a great thing on Saturday.
